This week is prostate cancer awareness week. My friend is chief exuctive of the prostate cancer charity and this is an issue that we as men need to be increasingly aware of:
- Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. Every year, 32,000 men are diagnosed with the disease and 10,000 men die of it - that's one man every hour.
- Historically, prostate cancer was neglected and by any dimension - research investment, media interest, political support, public awareness or Government action - it simply didn't register on the 'radar screen'. Things are changing but slowly.
What you can do:
If you live in the UK then you may like to know that Marks and Spencer have decided to partner The Prostate Cancer Charity throughout the month of March. Information on prostate cancer is being distributed in all the 400+ stores across the UK and blue, Real Man pin badges are on sale also in all those stores.
It would be great if this partnership can be a real success so that it can go from strength to strength. This is a plea from me - could you please go into your local branch of M&S, buy a pin badge and wear it with pride! You'll be demonstrating your support for the thousands of men and their families affected by this disease every year
Speaking of dominion-free sexuality and this post, have you ever read anything about the corrolation between vasectomies and prostrate cancer. From what I've read, if you get a vasectomy, you're pretty much going to get prostrate cancer. I'm not sure how accurate the research was, but it was pretty eye-brow raising.

Thanks Molls, I asked my friend who is the Chief Exec of the charity on this one and he said that there have been a number of studies and they are inconclusive - so i guess more research needs to be done...

Prostate cancer awareness needs to be raised to the same level as breast cancer. We understand that it isn't quite as "sexy" as it typically strikes only older men, a demographic not in favor in our youth culture, but as a health issue it merits awareness and attention.Hopefully there will be enough research directed towards this issue in the near future to finally settle on a proper course of detection and treatment, rather than the clearly fragmented and contradictory information we see today.
