Truly incredible! Pinch me I'm still dreaming! How in the world did we win that! Talk about a game of 2 halves. Liverpool beating AC Milan onm penalties having trailed 3-0 at half time! "That's goodnight" I said to Debs when Milan made it 2-0 and "what do you fancy doing for the rest of the evening?" when it was 3-0.
Nathan waking up and needing to be settled down provided my half time entertainment and a reminder that some things were more important that footie!
Settling in for the 2nd half I was totally relaxed, well lets just watch the boys loose gracefully to have come so far was reward enough for me. But what an amazing 6 minutes!! First 1 goal, then 2 and oh my goodness the ref who missed the most obvious pen claim in a long time in the first half gives us justice as Stevie G goes tumbling in the box and its all confusion as I am trying to work out if its a pen! It is!! We miss! We score on the rebound!!!!! Fan-flippin-tastic!!!
Extra time - we're dead on our feet, doing an England, defending whilst Milan look full of attacking verve. i'm nervous but heh we've got a chance a fighting chance - and then it looks all over, first off the line and then the most brilliant save I have ever seen - how dudek kept the ball out from Shvenko from 5 yards is beyond me...
For once pens were fairly relaxing, I must thank Milan for easing my heart attack worries by missing their first two [tried not to shoot debs for insisting that Dudek was cheating by coming off his line for his save]. Of course this being liverpool, risse had to miss his kick, so the tension crept up again! But magic! Somehow dudek has got the mockers on shvenko and he saves his pen!!!!
Debs had briefed me before that amazing save not to burst her eardrums. I didn't but man was I happy - relief, disbelief, stunned amazement - somehow, someway we were european champs -again!!!!!
Made me remember that verse in the bible from that top ol philolosopher/poet who said...
