Paul,
Wow. This is great. Causes me to look at myself. Thank you for this.
Blessings,

I'm not at all sure I know what you're saying here Paul (read it this morning at 3am, glanced at it a little now too). However that doesn't stop me leaving inane comments.

:D

Something I came across when I was a newish Christian lined up with my thinking about church, tradition, heritage and theology. The original writer was leading a 'house church' and talking with a local vicar, who was at pains to point out that his church had a fine history of 500 years. The writer replied that the history of his church was more like 2000 years.

Many bloggers, writers etc seem to have assumed that one is either body-and-sould embracing one of the historical church traditions or has deconstructed to the point where everything is discarded. I frequently found myself at odds with some who did not distinguish between sound and obvious orthodox doctrine and other forms of church tradition involving robes and liturgy. In retrospect this may be the area in which I see the wole emeregnt thing ship-wrecking, by discarding the sound doctrine while embracing the historically exotic aspects of church.

What bugs me?

Todd Bently being derailed, Driscoll being seen in only one way. What bugs me particularly is the way as humans we only perceive reality through a narrow slot, dividing the world into liberal and conservative, socialist and capitalist, traditionalist and libertarian. And rather than try to broaden our view, to see more, instead we 'specialise', heading further away from the centre into our own narrow extremity, isolated and divided from all except those who hold equally narrow and extreme views.

You can see I've spent too much time on primarily American forums.

Paul, I've totally roared like a headless chicken. (It does burn.)

I've tried twice to write something deepish. It's not working, but what you wrote does resonate with things I'm praying and thinking through right now.

Thanks.
